Cohuna YTO will be hosting another take over in Cohuna during 2025, Mawson's will open their doors and career opportunities to Cohuna Secondary College students. Mawson’s and the CCLLEN are presently working together to form an industry challenge the Vocational Major students at Cohuna Secondary College will support solving. Students will use this challenge to support meeting their curriculum outcome requirements of Personal Development, Literacy and Work-related Skills.
Students will complete their White Cards in Term 2 in readiness for Term 3.
Over an eight-week time frame, Mawsons has proudly partnered with Campaspe Cohuna LLEN and Cohuna Secondary College to deliver the Youth Take Over project. This initiative is designed to inspire and inform the next generation about the diverse career opportunities within our company and industry.
Ten Vocational Major (VM) students from Cohuna Secondary College took part in the program, engaging directly with younger employees from across Mawsons. These included quarry operators, drill and blast engineers, apprentice mechanics and fabricators, cadets (both past and present), and lab technicians. Each session offered students a behind the scenes look at the roles, careers pathways, and people that make up the Mawsons team.
The project culminates in the creation of a student led documentary titled “Open the Lens”, which aims to showcase these career stories to classmates and the wider community. By “opening the lens" the documentary will highlight the many rewarding and often lesser-known roles available at Mawsons; helping young people see beyond the obvious machine operating jobs and consider futures they may not have previously imagined.
This collaboration reflects Mawsons’ongoing commitment to community engagement, education and workforce development.
The launch of the Open the Lens documentary shows a fresh perspective from the next generation of thinkers, maker and doers.
