Voice of our Youth aims to capture the voice of young people aged 12-25 living in the Loddon Campaspe region, who are currently or have previously been faced with the challenge of leaving school early. It will explore what needs to exist to keep such young people engaged and where the system needs to adjust to meet their needs.
As part of this process, the CCLLEN and Campaspe Shire have jointly funded a deeper exploration in our Shire, and are arranging a series of focus groups in Rochester, Echuca, Rushworth and Kyabram aimed at capturing lived experiences from disengaged or high risk young people.
Priorities for Campaspe include:
- Provide an overview of the current situation/challenges to the continued engagement of all young people in education within the Campaspe Shire.
- Understand why some young people are disengaging from school from the point of view of local young people with lived experience.
- Work with community stakeholders, including young people, their families, education sector professionals and local business leaders to identify both the current barriers and future solutions to young people's engagement in education through to employment.
We are collating data in six ways:
- Online survey
- Postcard activity
- Youth focus groups
- 5 in 5 voice recordings
- Stakeholder consultation
- Deep dive forum/s
