Friday 28 March was a day to remember for students from across the Campaspe and Cohuna regions, as they boarded buses before sunrise to attend the 2025 Avalon International Airshow, one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most significant aviation and aerospace events.
Students from Rushworth, Kyabram, Cohuna, Echuca, and Rochester were given an exciting opportunity to explore the cutting edge of aviation, defence, aerospace, and technology.
From the moment they arrived, students were immersed in all things aviation related. The sheer scale of the event was breathtaking, with something to captivate every interest, from historic aircraft and cutting-edge aviation technology to defence careers and industry displays.
One of the most popular attractions was the Drone Zone, where students experienced the rapidly growing world of drone technology, with interactive displays, demonstrations, and hands-on opportunities. The aerial displays that ran throughout the day left the crowd in awe, with the RAAF F-35A Lightning II wowing spectators with its speed, agility and raw power—undoubtedly a personal highlight for many.
The Australian Defence Force (ADF) was out in full force, providing students with valuable insights into the multitude of roles and career pathways within the defence sector. From engineering and aviation to logistics and cyber security, the showcase was a powerful reminder of the diversity of opportunities available in the ADF.
The event offered students not only an exciting day out but also real inspiration for future careers in aviation, technology, and defence. It was a fantastic opportunity to link classroom learning with real-world applications in a fun and engaging environment.
