For more than 11 years, the Campaspe L2P Mentor Driver Program has assisted hundreds of young people obtain enough learner driver hours to apply to gain their probationary license.
Lead On Echuca Moama have been at the helm of the program since it began back in October 2010, with Glynis Kelly the most recent Coordinator.
In November, Glynis notified the Lead On board that it was time for her to move on. As a result, Lead On have partnered with the Campaspe Cohuna LLEN (CCLLEN) to co-ordinate the program for the duration of its contract.
The TAC L2P Program assists disadvantaged Victorian learner drivers aged 16 to 21 with no access to a supervising driver or vehicle to gain the 120 hours driving experience required to apply for a probationary licence.
Young people (aged 16-21) with a current learner permit can apply for the program. If the young person meets the criteria and is accepted into the program the TAC L2P Program matches learners with a fully-licensed volunteer driver.
The learners are matched with a volunteer mentor and learners participating in the program have access to up to seven free driving lessons throughout the program with a professional instructor.
This helps learners build their skills before getting on the road with a volunteer mentor and continue progressing through the four stages of the Graduated Licensing System.
The program focuses on helping young people become safe, confident drivers, in an effort to reduce Victoria’s road toll. It also provides an opportunity for young people to interact with positive adult role models, gain confidence and move towards social independence.
