The Junior Park Rangers (JPR) Program at Kyabram Fauna Park is off to a fantastic start in 2025, giving students a hands-on, nature-based learning experience that’s building skills, confidence, and connection with school.
This year, the program has expanded to include a combined cohort of Grade 5/6 and Year 7/8 students, with two sessions running weekly, one on Mondays and the other on Wednesdays. Schools currently participating include Rochester Secondary College, Rochester Primary School, Echuca Twin Rivers Specialist School, and Kyabram P-12 College.
The aim of the program is to encourage engagement, resilience and confidence, as an early intervention strategy for disengagement. Students through cooperative learning will learn responsibility, research skills, teamwork and how to care for animals and the environment.
A huge thank you to Kimberley, Education Coordinator at Kyabram Fauna Park, for her incredible support and collaboration in bringing this program to life, and to Vanessa, who has been doing a brilliant job facilitating the sessions each week with enthusiasm and care.
The program wraps up with a Celebration Day in Term 2, where students will come together to reflect on their achievements and share their experiences. And there’s more to come, two new cohorts will begin their Junior Park Ranger journey in Semester 2, continuing the positive momentum.
