Kyabram Fauna Park seamlessly transitioned into the Zoos Victoria network at the close of 2022, marking a significant chapter in its commitment to wildlife conservation and education. While the transition temporarily halted the popular Junior Park Rangers program for Semester 1, 2023, the dedicated efforts of the park's Education Coordinator, Izzy Paholek, have resulted in a successful revival of the program in Semester 2.
The Junior Park Rangers initiative, which engaged primary students from Echuca Twin Rivers Specialist School, Kyabram P-12, and St Augustine’s Kyabram, provides an immersive and educational experience for young minds eager to explore the wonders of the animal kingdom.
During each visit, these aspiring Junior Park Rangers have the unique opportunity to connect with the park's residents, including Kangaroos and their joeys. They actively monitor and record the activities of these captivating creatures, gaining firsthand insights into wildlife behavior and conservation.
A notable aspect of the program involves the students' involvement in monitoring the decomposition of various materials within composting bins, equipped with viewing windows. This hands-on activity not only reinforces ecological principles but also instills a sense of environmental stewardship among the participants.
The culmination of this semester's efforts was celebrated on Monday, 23 October, with the highly anticipated Celebration Day. On this occasion, the Junior Park Rangers proudly presented their completed projects and shared their newfound knowledge with their families. The day was filled with exploration as students, accompanied by their families, had the unique opportunity to traverse different areas of the park, encountering its diverse wildlife and witnessing the impact of their conservation endeavors.
