Our Food & Fibre Careers Day is the largest in Victoria, with over 400 students attending in May 2023.
LLEN's, universities, TAFEs, training organisations and industry bodies work together to organise the Food & Fibre Careers Day at the Dookie Campus of the University of Melbourne.
Twenty-two different workshops were offered with many filling to capacity during the registration process. Workshops included genetics, sheep, hydroponics, veterinary technology, climate challenges, tractors, technology, dairy, agribusiness, equine, beef, indigenous foods, environmental science, pastures, sweet science, pigs, drones and viticulture. This provided a wide range of aspects of Food & Fibre production.
Lunch was provided and an ag relay race was held during the break with students competing in teams for prizes, sashes and a trophy for the overall winning school. The race consisted of ag related activities in a relay which was a lot of fun.
Feedback from students showed a large increase in the number now interested in a career in Food & Fibre. They enjoyed the hands on activities and learning new things. They also appreciated the variety of workshops on offer.
