Students from four schools in the Campaspe region got a first-hand look at the engineering industry when CCLLEN and Committee for Echuca Moama partnered again on running an industry tour showcasing diverse engineering roles and workplaces. Through the Engineers Solve Problems initiative, four local businesses opened their doors to students from Rochester Secondary College, St Joseph's College, Moama Anglican Grammar and Echuca College. The tours explored the diversity of operations within each organisation and various pathways into a career in engineering.
The aim of the Engineers Solve Problems program is to show students real-life examples of local people working across a range of engineering fields, to help them make more infomred choices about their future pathways. It is also a great way to connect genuinely interested students with work placement opportunities.
The core business of the four organisations involved - Foodmach, Major Roads Victoria, Byford Equipment and Riverport Engineering - is vastly different, however all rely on engineers with a range of skills, experience and qualifications.
Connecting our future workforce to industry was the focus, allowing students to explore job roles within a business, speak to representatives in these roles and gain a better understanding of the pathway options to succeed in their careers.
