An update on some of the programs in action across Campaspe Youth Partnerships -
I CAN Network
The I CAN mentoring programs continue to be a special time of the week for many of our Autistic and imaginative young people in our local area where they feel connected and comfortable.
After information sessions held in both Kyabram and Echuca in March with Guest Speaker Chris Varney, CEO I CAN Network, and Kate Andrews, Murray Goulburn I CAN Manager, we filled four combined schools programs with up to 16 students in each.
We have a Kyabram Secondary program and Imagination Club (primary based) with students from Kyabram P-12 College, Rushworth P-12 College and St Augustine’s College.
In Echuca we have a secondary mentoring program with students from Echuca College, St Joseph’s College, River City Christian College and Echuca Specialist School and the Imagination Club with students from Twin Rivers PS, Echuca Primary School and Echuca Specialist School.
In the coming term, the students will be planning and organising their presentations for the I CAN Expo to be held in Mooroopna on 15 November.
Junior Park Rangers at Kyabram Fauna Park
The second group of primary school students from Echuca Specialist School, Rushworth P-12 College Kyabram P-12 College and St Augustine’s College has commenced the Junior Park Rangers program in August with an introductory session meeting a lizard, a snake and a dunnart. One student announced that this was the best hour and half of his life! The Junior Park Rangers are meeting every Friday afternoon and working on selected projects.
MATES Mentoring program:
The MATES mentoring program has expanded to Rushworth P-12 College and Cohuna Secondary College with many more matches completed at St Augustine’s College. The program also runs at Kyabram P-12 College, Echuca College, St Joseph’s College and Echuca Specialist School with 17 young people currently matched up with volunteers from the community.
We enjoyed group morning teas both at Kyabram and Echuca which gave the opportunity for both mentors and mentees to meet each other and to share their experiences so far. These group get-togethers are an important part of the program.
