The Echuca-Moama Bridge Project is progressing well with construction on the bridge itself to commence in coming months.
The Major Road Projects Victoria team is keen to engage with school students to show them the project and the careers involved. In May the team visited Year 3 and 4 students at Echuca East Primary School to teach them about the Bridge Project. Students also heard from Strathallan Family Landcare about nest boxes for wildlife potentially affected by the removal of trees.
Students were given a choice of two projects - design and construct their own model bridge, or build a nest box. The bridge design brief specified that the bridge be strong enough to carry heavy vehicles, high enough for paddlesteamers to go under, and have safe pedestrian access.
CCLLEN stepped in to help with advice and expertise on both project ideas, and sourced donations of materials from Bunnings in Echuca. The school invited parents and grandparents to assist and several arrived with their cordless drills in hand.
It was a very productive morning's work at Echuca East when more than 30 nest boxes were built and painted, and several model bridges were constructed and demonstrated to the Major Road Projects representative. Parents and teachers were enthusiastic about the students high level of learning engagement and interest in the bridge.
