Semester 2 saw another outstanding round of the Junior Park Rangers (JPR) program at Kyabram Fauna Park, with both the Monday and Wednesday groups running at full capacity. Delivered through Campaspe Youth Partnerships and proudly supported by the Campaspe Cohuna LLEN, the program continues to provide meaningful opportunities for students who are at risk of disengagement, helping to rebuild confidence, strengthen attendance, and create a sense of belonging through student centred, project based learning.
Each week, students immersed themselves in hands on activities designed to spark curiosity and encourage teamwork. Under the expert facilitation of Vanessa from Kyabram Fauna Park, our Junior Park Rangers learned practical environmental skills while contributing to the park’s broader conservation efforts. Behind the scenes, education coordinator Kim played a pivotal role in ensuring each session ran smoothly and that every student had the chance to thrive.
Throughout the 10 week program, students crafted insect hotels, planted flowering species to help attract bees, and tended to their sustainable vegetable gardens. They explored a wide range of park related tasks and even had the chance to participate in animal enrichment activities. These rich experiences allowed students to take pride in their work, build new skills and deepen their connection with the environment.
To mark the end of each program, Celebration Day brought families and special guests together to acknowledge the achievements of our Junior Park Rangers. Students proudly guided their visitors through the park, showcasing the projects they had completed and sharing stories about their favourite parts of the program. These moments of joy and connection are a testament to the positive impact JPR continues to have on young people across our region.
