The CCLLEN works towards negotiating and establishing lasting partnerships between schools, business, community groups and parents and family groups to improve education outcomes for young people. Partnership Brokers work with these stakeholder groups to foster a whole of community approach to support young people as they transit though school into further education or employment.

Workplace learning experiences for students are facilitated and enhanced under this program. Our Workplace Learning Coordinator, Alison Dunstan works with Secondary Schools, TAFE’s, Adult and Community Education providers and local employers to coordinate work placements for School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships, Structured Workplace Learning and Work Experience.
What is the difference between School Based Apprenticeships & Traineeships (SBATs), Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) and Work Experience?
SBAT’s: Allow secondary school students, across a wide range of fields, to work for an employer, train towards a recognised qualification, and complete their secondary school studies at the same time. The norm is that, under a paid employment contract, a student attends a work place or training institution one day a week and then regular school classes the other four days. Basically, allows a student to have a part time job that may count as a school subject.
SWL: Senior secondary students undertake supervised time within a workplace to gain to put into practice the skills they are learning industry specific skills and attain sets of competencies, related to an accredited course they are undertaking as part of their school studies. There is no paid employment contract involved. Secondary students undertaking a TAFE type certificate course as one of their school subjects do a work placement, to put the skills they are learning into actual practice.
Work Experience is all about ‘observing’. Secondary school students are placed short term with a host employer to gain an insight into the industry and related careers.
These courses are currently available (as of September 2011)
This list will be updated each term and posted on the CCLLEN website www.ccllen.com.au
Students must be at least 15 years of age or over to enrol. Some courses have rolling enrolments allowing students to start at any time as well as flexible delivery options.
