Valerie McGrath
Representing Community
Val escaped from Melbourne to northern Victoria four years ago to take on the position of Jobs Pathway Officer (A JPP DEST role). In this role she assisted 320 young people from across eight schools in the region including secondary colleges in Cohuna, Echuca and Rochester. Val became executive officer for the Echuca Moama Beacon Foundation in 2003. She also teaches the Work Related Skills VCAL subject at St Joseph’s College. Strengths she brings to CCLLEN: “I care about the future for young people and I want our community to continue building and nurturing strong connections with young people so that everyone ultimately benefits. The Beacon Foundation has many wonderful supporters out there and in my role I can provide one of the vehicles through which they can interact with and encourage young people particularly in the area of jobs and careers but also in life skills. This becomes a two-way exchange between the young and the not-so-young!” Aspirations for CCLLEN: “Every business, every industry, every person to be involved in the solution to unemployment and underemployment among young people. There is an opportunity for the CCLLEN to represent a ‘brains trust’ to make this happen.
