Pam Marwood
Representing Other Community
Pam is one of the two senior social workers at Centrelink, serving Echuca and Shepparton. Her clients include youth at risk, families, and long-term unemployed; many of them in crisis. Pam also has a businessperson’s perspective: she and her husband run a frozen foods business. Prior to coming to Echuca in 1997, Pam was a counsellor for four years with Loddon Mallee Women’s Health, a childcare center coordinator, a researcher into childcare needs for both Aboriginal and European families, and filled a number of other welfare-related roles.
Strengths she brings to CCLLEN: “Firstly, my depth of understanding of current Federal Government policy, direction and services for the unemployed and for students. Secondly, my access to the client group is probably greater than other providers – students and the unemployed, often with related homelessness and other difficulties make up 60% of my casework.”
Aspirations for CCLLEN: “The strategic plan of CCLLEN is sound and if we can see some of those goals achieved, and some programs coming to fruition, they will bring a lot more support for young people and it will be more cohesive. There are so many pathways now but young people are still missing out on information. CCLLEN’s plan to link schools online should enhance support and relationships further.
